Initially I came up with a narrative idea of my own that I started over the Christmas holidays to get a jump-start on the new project brief for term 2. Before Christmas there was talk and consideration that I worked with Jak Moore in collaboration on the next project, the idea came about as Jak expressed that drawing and art was not his strong point and he wanted to take more of a producer/ director role. However nothing was decided before Christmas so I made a start not wanting to leave everything to the beginning of term.
At the beginning of term a decision was made after getting the go ahead to work together on the new brief. As we had both come up with our own ideas during the holidays we sat together and talked through both our ideas to see which one we would like to progress with and alter accordingly to work for both of us, However we could not come to a decision and both agreed we would start over with a completely new concept, however we realised that we no longer had the heads up that the holidays gave and quickly got on with creating an idea. By the end of the night we had a pretty solid idea set and had begun to think about characters and narrative almost completely catching up with where we had got to before with our own ideas. My role in the project will be mainly character development, backgrounds and visual production on the final piece of interactive narrative, however I will be involved with the scripting process and narrative, both of us will be corresponding closely with each other to make sure we both have input in all areas of production.
Our idea is a fantasy story set in the near future, myth has proven to be reality when a young man discovers a mineral underneath Stonehenge that is a natural source of Magic. He named it Magik after its original spelling in early English language. He makes devices that allow this mineral to be used by everyday people, however getting the public used to the concept of magic being real was no easy feat. There are also people who have magic powers naturally that they are born with, and as magic becomes more widely accepted they begin to come out of the woodwork and reveal themselves to society. As well as this there is another man who claims to have found Magik before the young English man, he creates a rival company. Our idea uses references to early English and Arthurian mythology and also Norse mythology that sheds new light on the ideas behind people’s beliefs in gods and Magic. The finalised idea will be ready in the next few days.
